Abortion Resources In and Around Southern Maryland

Download as .PDF

On Friday, June 24, an illegitimate Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, arguing that medical privacy and body autonomy aren’t real rights because abortion wasn’t codified as a right in the 18th century. Multiple states had trigger laws on the books, and other states rushed to ban abortion.

FTP believes that every person deserves full body autonomy and reproductive freedom. People have the right to decide whether or not to carry a pregnancy to term, whether to parent or adopt, and whether and what contraception to use. This right should be independent of other people’s religious beliefs or the value a rigged capitalist system assigns to that person’s labor.

Maryland has laws on the books protecting abortion, so our clinics remain open. Patients from outside the DMV already travel to DC for abortion care, and those numbers will only expand as more states eliminate abortion rights.

But in Southern Maryland especially, people don’t have the access to abortion and contraceptives that you might expect in a “safe” state. Between St. Mary’s, Charles, and Calvert Counties, we have exactly zero abortion providers. There’s a single Planned Parenthood, which doesn’t provide abortions. But there are close to half a dozen “crisis pregnancy centers,” the fake clinics that lie to pregnant people about their options and try every trick in the book to keep them from choosing abortion.

Because of this need, FTP has been giving out Plan B at our tables. We realize that emergency contraception doesn’t replace access to medical or surgical abortions, but access to emergency contraception is an important part of reproductive freedom. We also compiled the following list of resources for abortion care, pregnancy testing, and contraception. This includes telehealth providers who will consult with patients online and mail out abortion pills.

If you’re aware of resources we haven’t identified, please let us know.
